As the church of Christ in Marble Falls, we are a group of people who just want to be Christians. Our aim is to simply be the church of the New Testament. Our goal is to imitate the church as Jesus established it in all it's beauty and simplicity.
We strive to let God define the identity, the organization, and the responsibilities of the church. We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and our only guide in all areas of life and godliness.
Each church of Christ is independent of any denominational structure. We are not bound by any denominational creeds, written traditions, or regional/national organizations. We are undenominational!
We are completely independent and autonomous. The leaders of this congregation guide this church according to the will of God.
What Can a Visitor Expect?
When you visit us we want you to feel comfortable. We know an unfamiliar place may be intimidating, so let us walk you through our services and explain a few things. In this way we hope to make you feel more welcome and at ease as you honor us with your presence.
The Setting
We believe the church is the people and not the building, so for this reason we could meet anywhere, but for the sake of convenience we have a building available for our assemblies. As you enter the auditorium you will see the rows of pews. There are no reserved seats, so feel free to sit anywhere you choose.
Singing
In the bookrack you will see a songbook for your use. When the song leader announces a song number you turn to the page announced and please, feel free to sing along with us.
One of the unique things about churches of Christ is that the singing is without the accompaniment of musical instruments. We worship in song in this way because there is no example or command regarding instrumental music anywhere in the New Testament. Instrumental music was used in Old Testament worship, but the apostles of Jesus, inspired by the Holy Spirit did not choose to use instrument in worship and there were no instruments in church worship for the first 600 years of church history. The result of "a cappella" music is a beautiful blending of all voices, seeking to praise and glorify God in spirit and love.
Prayers
In every service there are several prayers. We believe in the power and importance of prayer and when a man leads the assembly before the throne room of God in prayer, we bow our heads in reverence and respect.
Preaching
The man who stands before the congregation and presents a message won't be wearing any ecclesiastical vestments which set him apart. He is not referred to as Pastor or Reverend, but simply by his name. The reason for this is our belief in the priesthood of all believers. We believe every member is a minister and equal in the eyes of God. The sermon will be between 20 to 30 minutes and it is our prayer that you find it refreshing and Bible-centered.
Lord's Supper
Another thing that is unique to Churches of Christ is the weekly observance of the Lord's Supper. We know from New Testament teaching (Acts 20:7) and from church history that the Lord's Supper was an every Sunday commemoration. During this memorial, plates containing unleavened bread and small cups of "fruit of the vine," (grape juice) will be passed throughout the congregation. These emblems symbolize the body and blood of Jesus as he died on the cross for our sins. We offer an open communion in which all are to examine themselves before they partake. Those who participate have accepted Jesus Christ as the Son of God and have obeyed the gospel of our Lord and Savior.
If you choose not to participate, don't be embarrassed. Feel free to just pass the plate to the person next to you.
